This guide will show you how to start and complete the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Superior Ursine Gear from the Bear School witcher set in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt next-gen update, where to find and how to obtain all the diagrams as well as the requirements to craft the armor and weapons!

What is the Superior Ursine Gear and who is it for
The Superior Ursine witcher set is a Tier 3 Witcher Gear. It requires level 30 and is an upgrade to the Enhanced Ursine witcher gear (level 25), which is an upgrade to the Basic Ursine witcher gear (level 20).
It’s a heavy armor set boosting Attack Power, Crit Hit Chance, and Adrenaline Points Gain. It also provides great resistance to damage from monsters, slashing damage, elemental damage and more.
This set is one of my personal favorites and it works great in almost any sword-heavy build. It looks stylish and lightweight, despite being classified as a heavy armor set in the game.
How to start the Scavenger Hunt quest
To start the Scavenger Hunt quest for the Superior Ursine gear, you have to purchase the map fragment from the armorer in Kaer Trolde. The name of the item in the shop is “Ibrahim Savi’s third map” and the name of the quest is “Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear Upgrade Diagrams – Part 3”.
The following quests can also be started if you purchase the rest of the map diagrams this crafter is selling, but if you are up to the Superior tier, you probably have already purchased these map fragments:

Picking up the map fragments and starting the Scavenger Hunt Quests is optional. You can go to the places I will describe in detail in the next section of the guide and pick up the diagrams yourself. Obtaining all diagrams will complete these two quests for you anyway.
The Superior Ursine gear can be used at level 30. You can pick up the diagrams at a lower level if you prefer. If this is your first playthrough, I recommend going there at level 25 or higher.
The whole adventure of obtaining the diagrams and crafting the armor and swords should take you around 20 minutes. It may be longer if you are missing crafting ingredients.
Visual Overview of the set
The Bear School witcher gear is simple but very Skellige-like and stylish. It is perfectly suitable for the cold weather conditions the islanders have to endure. And later, when fully upgraded, it turns into the best-looking armor set (in my opinion). The third tier is almost all grey and adds a bandana-line cloth scarf around Geralt’s neck. The lower portion of the armor piece is all from one material now and it’s also one color – grey.
The color effect on the swords is a result of the inserted runes. Yours may vary. If you have no runes in the available slots, the swords are all silver color without the engravings.
Where to find the Diagrams
The Armor set and swords are all located in Velen – the first region you visit after you exit the starter zone, White Orchard.
Superior Armor Set Diagrams Location
Northwest from the Hanged Man’s Tree, there is a cave. In and around its entrance you may encounter some low-level Nekkers, but there’s nothing too scary. I always pick up this set as soon as I arrive in Velen.
You enter the cave from the north side. The entrance is next to a broken wooden scaffold.
As soon as you enter the cave, look for a small alcove on the left-hand side. Look for a metal chest next to a few wooden barrels and other wooden chests.
There is a chance you may have visited this earlier as you have a lower level quest in this same cave and area. If you cannot loot the chest and don’t remember being here, just check if you have the diagrams available in the Crafting tab. Inside the chest you will find the diagrams for all four Superior Ursine Armor parts:
- Diagram: Superior Ursine armor
- Diagram: Superior Ursine gauntlets
- Diagram: Superior Ursine trousers
- Diagram: Superior Ursine boots

Steel Sword diagram location
The Superior Steel Sword is also in Velen. Go to the Ruined Tower northeast of the Orphans of Crookback Bog.
You may encounter a level 25 Earth Elemental right next to the Fast Travel post.
Near the eastern corner of the ruined tower’s walls, there is a steel chest. Inside you will find the Diagram: Ursine steel sword – superior.
Silver Sword diagram location
The Superior Ursine Silver Sword diagram is also located in Velen. You will find it in a cave southwest of the Orphans of the Crookback Bog.
The entrance to the cave is right at the very end of the swamps. In the image below I included the minimap to help you get a better idea of where exactly it is. There are more entrances to this cave, but whichever one you use, the chest is still in the same spot inside.
As soon as you enter, look for an alcove on the left. There you will see the remains of a man, leaning back on a steel chest. Inside that chest is the Diagram: Ursine silver sword – superior.
How to Craft the Armor and Swords
This is the third Tier of the Bear School Gear, you need a few rare and/or special things to craft it. Visit any Journeyman Blacksmith to craft the swords and a Journeyman Armorer to get the armor set.
The Superior Ursine is a high-level gear set. This means that to craft all of the items, you will need crafting materials as well as the previous versions of each item – the Enhanced ursine gear.
Crafting Materials Requirements
Out of all of the crafting materials for the gear set, the Cured Draconid Leather and Dimerithium Plate would probably be the toughest and most expensive to obtain.
Here is a short list of some of the more interesting crafting materials you may not have on you and info on how to obtain them:
Dark Steel Plate
Can be looted, purchased, or crafted from Dark Steel Ingots. You can dismantle some gear pieces.
Dimeritium Plate
Can be looted, crafted from Dimeritium Ingots, or purchased directly from a merchant (most often found in armorer and blacksmith shops).
Cured Draconid Leather
Can be purchased from merchants. (it’s a bit expensive but easy to find). Can also dismantle Heavy Armor or Monster Carapace to get it.
Dark Steel Ingot
Can be purchased from Armorers and other merchants. Can also craft it from Steel Ingot and Dark Iron Ingot/Dark Iron Ore or Dismantle items to get it.
Albedo
Alchemy substance. To craft it, you need herbs and White Gull. Read the guide to Important Merchants for more info on how and where to get them.
Where to find an Armorer and Blacksmith
It doesn’t matter which NPCs you visit to craft the items, but if you are not sure, I will mention two easily accessible and already available to you from your previous journeys on The Continent.
The Journeyman Armorer’s shop in Novigrad is at the western side of Hierarch Square. The Journeyman Blacksmith in Novigrad can make both swords for you. He is on the northern side of the open market area. This is just west and south of Hierarch Square.
Bonus tip: If you want to be ready for later, you can complete the secondary quests to unlock the Master Armorer Yoana at Crow’s Perch and Master Blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad. Linked above are the walkthrough guides on how to unlock both of them.
Superior Ursine Gear Set Stats
The Superior edition of the Bear witcher gear is an improvement in any aspect compared to the previous tier. You get an additional rune slow on the Armor and one rune slot on the Trousers.
How to get the Legendary Superior Ursine Bear School Gear
The Bear School Legendary Superior Ursine witcher gear is available in New Game Plus (NG+) in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. The Scavenger Quest and all diagrams are located in the exact same places as in the normal game.
In NG+ this set is called Legendary Superior Ursine. The word “legendary” is added to acknowledge that you are acquiring the NG+ version of the set. It has the same type of stats but offers higher values across the board. It also requires the same types of crafting materials.
The visual appearance of the Legendary Superior Ursine gear is the same as the Superior Ursine gear from the normal game.
