Fall 2024 | New Student Residence Hall Application Process FAQs (2024)

I am an incoming first-year student. Is there anything I need to do before I can apply for housing for fall 2024?

Before the housing application can be accessed, you will need to pay the $200 confirmation deposit to Admissions and confirm your IdentiKey security credentials. Please plan accordingly (confirm by June 1) as this process can take up to 3-5 business days and deadlines are firm. Please also be aware that the priority deadline could be earlier depending on the number of confirmations.

I am an incoming transfer student. What are my housing options?

Transfer students are not considered first-year students. Transfer students can apply for campus housing via the Transfer LLC in the Apartment Style housing application, and transfer students are eligible to live off campus. The Off Campus Housing and Neighborhood Relations office can assist with all the off campus housing needs.

Is there a deposit for housing that is required?

Applications will start being accepted on March 4, including the payment of the $250 security deposit and $50 non-refundable application fee.

First-year students should review the residence hall application process to understand next steps and the timeline. The application will be in the MyCULiving housing portal. Students must first confirm their admission to CU and set IdentiKey security credentials before gaining access to the application. Please plan accordingly (confirmby June 1) as this process can take up to 3-5 business days and deadlines are firm.

What happens if I miss a deadline?

All first-year students may apply at any point for housing between March 4 and the closing of the housing application on June 5*. We have created our timeline to give our students and families as much notice to our deadlines so they can make their decisions. We also communicate the timeline in emails and on our website. In order for us to have a fair and timely process, it is the student’s responsibility to meet all deadlines. Our deadlines are firm and unfortunately, exceptions will not be made if a deadline is missed. *This priority deadline can be moved earlier with little to no notice.

What if I am choosing amongst multiple schools and am not ready to commit to CU?

We certainly do understand that students may be making decisions amongst many institutions, and we want you to choose the university that is the best fit for you. We hope you choose CU Boulder! If you apply for housing now and make a decision not to attend CU, you will need to cancel your housing application by May 15, 2024, and we will refund your $250 housing deposit. Additionally, confirming to CU by June 1 should allow you to complete your application by the June 5* deadline.

*This priority deadline can be moved earlier with little to no notice.

I have a housing accommodation need, what is my process?

CU Boulder Disability Services reviews requests for housing and dining accommodations for students with documented disability-related needs, on a case-by-case individualized basis. If you feel you require a housing or dining accommodation, please submit your request to Disability Services as soon as possible and preferably as soon as you have submitted your application to University Housing. Please do not rely on your preferences in the University Housing application to ensure your needs are met. For instructions to request a housing or dining accommodation, please visit CU Disability Services Housing and Dining Accommodations.

I applied early, why didn’t I get my top preference(s)?

All applications are randomly assigned based on preferences and availability, not by application date. All preferences were considered in the assignment process and if the space was available, you were assigned. If you were assigned to a lower preference, it is because your higher preferences didn’t have vacancies. If none of your preferences were available, you were assigned to our next best Traditional Experience option.

How do I get a different assignment?

There is a Housing Change Process that runs between July 8-10. Room change requests prior to move-in will only be considered through this time frame. Hall changes through this process are considered by randomly selecting students with requests based on preferences, eligibility and availability. University Housing will re-assign students to a new space if they are selected in the process. University Housing tries to accommodate as many requests as possible, however, participation in the Housing Change Processes does not guarantee a room change. Decisions will be released July 16. If you do not receive a change, you will be able to apply for the housing change waitlist that opens on August 28 at 9 a.m. MT.

I got my assignment and didn’t want the RAP, what can I do?

You were only assigned to the RAP if you selected it in your preferences, and signed the RAP agreement form. It is important to review the Living Experiences to understand what you are preferencing in your application. Most RAPs are part of the entire building, and if so, you will be required to participate in the RAP if you live in that building. If you were placed in a RAP but are not interested, you will need to go through the assignment change process to change halls.
